Title: Exercises to improve oral expression through the pronunciation of consonants in fourth year students of Bachelor in Education English Major at the University of Holguin
Authors: Hernández Pérez, Karina
Abstract: This paper deals with a key aspect of language learning which is still overlooked by many teachers of English: the teaching of pronunciation which is as basic as any other aspect of language. Usually the main obstacle students face when learning a foreign language is neither vocabulary nor grammar but precisely pronunciation. This phenomenon is such complicate that even when students know how to read and write, sometimes they can barely understand or being understood when communicating with natives. After applying different empirical methods at the University of Holguin, the author noticed that pronunciation is not given the correct attention and students present some difficulties regarding the production of certain consonant sounds. The author decided to investigate about the topic and to elaborate exercises to improve oral expression through pronunciation. The theoretical and empirical methods applied helped to detect such difficulties in the English teaching - learning process. The information acquired aided to define the regularities in fourth year students, so as to elaborate the exercises to ameliorate their pronunciation.

Title: A Set of formative tasks to foster values education through an analysis of the historical evolution of the United States of America
Authors: López Preston, Santiago Eloy
Abstract: The Diploma Paper entitled “A Set of Formative Tasks to Foster Values Education through an Analysis of the Historical Evolution of the United States of America”, is a research work on one of the fundamental areas of the Cuban educational system at the moment, that is, the education of the younger generations based on a system of values without which the conquests of our socialist society have little opportunities to succeed. It consists of three chapters. Chapter one comprises a theoretical foundation in which the values formation aspect is approached from a scientific perspective. Different characteristics and concepts of the formative process are analyzed in this chapter. There is also an analysis of the potentials of the History lesson and the historical periods the author has dealt with to foster values education. Chapter two, which constitutes the author’s practical contribution with this paper, includes a set of formative tasks intended to foster values education through the analysis of some historical periods in the history of the United States of America the author has selected. Even when the exercises´ main objective is to strengthen the students´ values, they also contribute to the development of the four abilities regarding the teaching learning process of English as a foreign language. Chapter three comprises the corroboration of the proposal of the set of formative tasks intended to foster values education in the students of the English major.

Title: Skill-integrating tasks to improve ninth-grade students’ oral expression in English at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Junior High School in Holguín
Authors: Pupo Almarales, Yudisleidy Ruby
Abstract: Tests applied showed the existence of difficulties in the ninth-grade students’ oral expression in English at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Junior High School in Holguín during the 2013-2014 school year. Empirical methods helped corroborate this problem: observation of lessons, survey to students, interview to professors and analysis of written documents (Syllabus) rendered problems in the integration of skills to improve ninth graders´ oral expression. A theoretical foundation of the research is presented in the first chapter with a diagnosis of the current state of oral expression and its connection to skill integration. It also includes a theoretical foundation for the connection between oral expression and skill integration in foreign language teaching. Chapter Two is devoted to present the proposal of the Diploma Paper: skill-integrating tasks to improve ninth-grade students´ oral expression in English at Carlos Manuel de Céspedes Junior High School in Holguín. Also, a corroboration item is included to verify preliminarily the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposal firstly through the Specialists’ Opinion (Survey), then in practice via a Pre-experiment. At the end of the corpus appendixes were added for the reader’s further clarification on the work done.
