Luz Verde al Carbón de Piedra

Abstract

En este artículo es abordado un tema poco estudiado en la obra del notable maestro cubano de la primera mitad del siglo XIX, José de la Luz y Caballero. El autor revela los preceptos del reconocido intelectual acerca de la necesidad de utilizar el carbón de piedra como fuente energética fundamental de la naciente industria cubana y resalta su preocupación por utilizar el combustible más barato, abundante e inofensivo al medio ambiente y a la salud humana, para estimular el desarrollo económico y despejar el camino hacia el desarrollo de una industria de carácter nacional.

This article deals with a poorly studied topic of the work of the ouststanding Cuban teacher of the first half of the XIX century, José de la Luz y Caballero. The author reveals the precepts of this well known intellectual about the necessity of using coal as a fundamental source of energy for the emergin Cuban industry, and highlights his concern about using cheaper and less harmful combustible for the enviroment and human health, to stimulate the economic development as the way to the creation of a national industry.
