Caracterización técnico-económica y social de la producción ovina en el sector campesino del consejo popular Yareyal, municipio Holguín

Abstract

Con el objetivo de caracterizar los sistemas de producción ovina desde el punto de vista socioeconómico y tecnológico en el sector campesino del consejo popular Yareyal, municipio Holguín, se realizó un diagnostico a 11 fincas de productores ovinos a los cuales se les aplicaron encuestas a nivel de finca y en sus respectivas asociaciones de base siguiendo lo señalado por la guía-diagnóstico del ICA (1999), con la inclusión de indicadores tecnológicos, económicos, ambientales y sociales para las fincas. El procesamiento de toda la información cuantitativa se realizó a través del paquete Infostat (Di Rienzo et al. 2012). Se logró identificar los factores socioeconómicos y tecnológicos que limitaban el incremento de sus producciones, los aspectos socioeconómicos, la infraestructura, las capacidades tecnológicas y las características del potencial humano vinculado. Los resultados indicaron que la producción ovina se desarrolló como una alternativa para sustentar el autoconsumo cárnico y la economía familiar, con predominio de la raza criolla Pelibuey. La situación higiénica de las crianzas fue aceptable, en las que predominó el sistema de manejo extensivo, con pastoreo continúo sobre pastos naturales de baja calidad y rebaños integrales de 20-40 ovinos en el 72,7 %. Las ventas por convenios resultaron inferiores a las esperadas, con un peso vivo medio por debajo de los 30 kg en el 63,6 % a una edad tardía superior al año de vida en el 81,8 %. Se demostró que los productores encuestados recibieron poca atención por asociaciones e instituciones aptas para capacitar y/o brindar asistencia técnica.

In order to characterize the sheep production systems from the socio-economic and technological point of view in the peasant sector of the popular council Yareyal, Holguín municipality, a diagnosis was made to 11 farms of sheep producers to which were applied surveys at the level of farm and in their respective grassroots associations following the indications of the ICA diagnostic guide (1999), with the inclusion of technological, economic, environmental and social indicators for the farms. The processing of all the quantitative information was done through the Infostat package (Di Rienzo et al., 2012). It was possible to identify the socioeconomic and technological factors that limited the increase of their productions, the socioeconomic aspects, the infrastructure, the technological capabilities and the characteristics of the linked human potential. The results indicated that sheep production was developed as an alternative to support meat self-consumption and family economy, with predominance of the Creole Pelibuey breed. The hygienic situation of the rearing was acceptable, in which the extensive management system prevailed, with continuous grazing on low quality natural pastures and integral flocks of 20-40 sheep in 72.7%. Contract sales were lower than expected, with an average live weight below 30 kg in 63.6% at a late age higher than the year of life in 81.8%. It was shown that the producers surveyed received little attention from associations and institutions able to train and/or provide technical assistance.
