La mujer en el Término Municipal de Holguín durante 1878-1895

Abstract

La historia de Cuba fue hecha por los habitantes de la colonia sin distinción de clase, raza y género, pero fue escrita por hombres generalmente hispanos, quienes asumieron el papel protagónico. Esta historia de discriminación es bien conocida en nuestra historiografía, sin embargo, el acercamiento al tema femenino ha sido episódico y complementario al pensamiento y la acción masculinos. Este enfoque patriarcal ha dejado un campo virgen por indagar. Se investiga el desempeño social de la mujer en el Término municipal de Holguín durante el período 1878-1895, caracterizando su vida socio económica en el contexto colonial. La investigación está estructurada en dos capítulos: La sociedad colonial cubana y la mujer en el período y Sociedad holguinera y mujer en el mismo tiempo. Las fuentes utilizadas, soporte esencial de las demostraciones históricas, fueron de naturaleza primaria y secundaria. Las del primer tipo provienen del Fondo Alcaldía 1878-1895, consistentes en libros de actas capitulares, censos, padrones y documentación general de la vida política administrativa dentro del Término municipal, así como numerosas correspondencias con la provincia de Santiago de Cuba. También se trabajaron los Protocolos Notariales y el Registro civil establecido en el primer lustro de los años 1880. Las del segundo grupo de autores básicamente nacionales y holguineros. Consideramos que contribuimos a caracterizar la vida social de la mujer en el período colonial. La novedad radica en un estudio sobre la sociedad donde se incluya a la mujer como un ente social significativo en las transformaciones que definen la identidad holguinera.

The history of Cuba was made by inhabitants of the colony without distinction of class, race and gender, but was written by men generally white and Hispanic, who assumed the leading role. This history of social and racial discrimination is well known in our historiography, however, the approach to the feminine theme has generally been fragmentary and, at best, complementary to male thinking and action. This patriarchal approach has left a virgin field to be investigated. We intend to elucidate the social performance of women in the municipality of Holguin during the period 1878-1895 by characterizing the social life of women in the colonial context of Holguin between 1878 and 1895.The research is structured by two chapters: The cuban colonial society and women in the period 1878-1895 and the second: The Holguin’s society and women in the same period. The documentary sources used are the essential support of the historical demonstrations of the thesis. They were of primary and secondary nature. Those of the first type come from 1878-1895 mayoral fund, consisting of books of capitular acts, censuses and patterns of the period and general documentation of administrative political life within the municipal term as well as numerous correspondence with the province of Santiago de Cuba. Also worked the notarial protocols and the civil registry established in the first five years of the 1880s. The second of authors basically national and from the province of Holguin. We consider that we contribute to characterize the social life of the Holguin´s woman in the colonial period and the colonial period and the noveltry lies in a study on the Holguin´s society where women included as a significant social entity in the transformations that define the Holguin´s identity of the period.
