Economía y Sociedad en las Jurisdiciones de Holguín y Gibara durante La Guerra de los Diez Años

Abstract

La tesis titulada Economía y Sociedad en las Jurisdicciones de Holguín y Gibara durante la Guerra de los Diez Años, aborda las características de ambas jurisdicciones antes y durante el conflicto, proceso que culmina con las particularidades del impacto de la guerra en el territorio. Se utilizaron para ello datos empíricos procedentes de fuentes primarias consultadas en el Archivo Histórico Provincial de Holguín, agrupados en las variables compraventa de tierras, bienes muebles e inmuebles, donaciones, capellanías y herencias; en el Archivo Histórico del Museo Provincial “La Periquera”, se consultó el fondo (1868-1878), y del Archivo Nacional de Cuba se consultaron documentos del fondo Gobierno General. La metodología aplicada consistió en el análisis y crítica de fuentes y la interpretación hermenéutica. Esta investigación develó las transformaciones económico sociales en las Jurisdicciones de Holguín y Gibara durante el período de 1868 a 1878, aspecto que había sido poco tratado en investigaciones anteriores. De aquí que el presente estudio contribuyó a revelar los cambios generales en la vida socio - económicos de estos territorios y evidenció que las relaciones entre estos dos focos de desarrollo histórico son compatibles, y que la historia de ambas no se puede entender, si no se acepta el juicio de que Holguín y Gibara son parte de un mismo proceso formativo de identidad, incluso en tal traumático proceso histórico que fue la Guerra del 68.

The thesis titled Economy and Society in the Jurisdictions of Holguín and Gibara during the Ten Years War deals with the characteristics of both jurisdictions before and during the conflict, culminating in the particularities of the impact of the war on the territory. Empirical data from primary sources consulted in the Holguín Provincial Historical Archives were used, grouped in the variables land sale, real and personal property, donations, chaplaincies and inheritances; In the Historical Archive of the Provincial Museum "La Periquera", the fund was consulted (1868-1878), and documents of the General Government fund were consulted from the National Archive of Cuba. The applied methodology consisted in the analysis and critique of sources and the hermeneutic interpretation. This investigation revealed the economic and social transformations in the Jurisdictions of Holguín and Gibara during the period of 1868 to 1878, an aspect that had been little discussed in previous investigations. Hence the present study contributed to reveal the general changes in the socio-economic life of these territories and showed that the relations between these two foci of historical development are compatible, and that the history of both can not be understood, if the Judgment that Holguín and Gibara are part of the same formative process of identity, even in such a traumatic historical process that was the War of 68.
