Caracterización de las viviendas con cubierta ligera en el Consejo Popular Guatemala del municipio Mayarí

Abstract

La trascendencia histórica de la localidad de Guatemala obedece en gran medida a su riqueza patrimonial. Este pueblo, ubicado en la zona nororiental del municipio de Mayarí, en la provincia de Holguín, es aún conocido por muchos como Preston, nombre del central azucarero que le dio origen como batey. Guatemala es popular por las particularidades de su primera arquitectura, sobreviviente del tiempo y el embate de los ciclones, importada desde los Estados Unidos de América durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. En la composición del conjunto urbano, declarado Monumento Nacional, se destaca la convivencia de distintos arquetipos de épocas diferentes, considerado el patrimonio habitacional de origen norteamericano mejor conservado en la región. En las viviendas predominan las paredes de madera machihembrada, techos a dos y cuatro aguas combinados con el empleo de cubiertas ligeras, ya sea tejas francesas, zinc o placas de asbesto cemento, que descansan sobre una estructura de alfajías de madera. Es por esta razón que se hace necesario llevar a cabo acciones que contribuyan con la conservación de estos inmuebles de valor histórico y arquitectónico. De aquí que conocer el estado técnico actual de las viviendas con cubierta ligera de este consejo popular sea el principal objetivo de la presente investigación

The historical significance of the town of Guatemala is largely due to its wealth of heritage. This town, located in the northeastern area of the municipality of Mayarí, in the province of Holguín, is still known by many as Preston, the name of the sugar mill that gave rise to it as a batey. Guatemala is popular for the peculiarities of its first architecture, survivor of time and the onslaught of cyclones, imported from the United States of America during the first half of the 20th century. In the composition of the urban complex, declared a National Monument, the coexistence of different archetypes from different eras stands out, considered the best preserved housing heritage of North American origin in the region. In the houses, tongue and groove wood walls predominate, gabled and hipped roofs combined with the use of light roofs, either French tiles, zinc or asbestos-cement plates, which rest on a structure of wooden rafters. It is for this reason that it is necessary to carry out actions that contribute to the conservation of these buildings of historical and architectural value. Hence, to know the current technical state of the houses with a light roof of this popular council is the main objective of the present investigation
