Acciones integradas hacia el rescate histórico-cultural de la bahía de Bariay

Abstract

La bahía de Bariay pertenece al municipio Rafael Freyre Torres, ubicado geográficamente al noroeste de la provincia Holguín. Limita por el norte con las aguas del Océano Atlántico, por el sur con los municipios de Báguanos y Holguín, por el este con el municipio de Banes y por el oeste con los municipios de Holguín y Gibara. La misma fue testigo, el 28 de octubre de 1492, de un hecho histórico-cultural de extraordinaria relevancia: el encuentro de dos culturas: europea y aborigen. Bañado por las aguas de esa bahía y la colindante: Jururú, se encuentra Cayo Bariay, lugar del primer desembarco de Cristóbal Colón en Cuba y del continente americano en general. Este sitio pertenece al Parque Nacional Cristóbal Colón y sus instalaciones forman parte de paquetes turísticos de la agencia Gaviota. En entrevistas realizadas a trabajadores de Gaviota, nativos y al historiador de Cayo Bariay, se ha manifestado que la afluencia de turistas a estas instalaciones ha decrecido a lo largo del tiempo y se requiere, a juicio de los entrevistados e investigadores, lograr un incremento de acciones novedosas, fundamentalmente con productos de turismo de naturaleza y aventura, que al aprovechar las bondades naturales encerradas en lugares cercanos, se pueden vincular con el patrimonio del cayo, que haría más evidente la importancia histórico cultural que encierra este hecho e incremente la generación de bienes y servicios medioambientales para la zona, pues se hará más atractivo y significativo el paquete turístico asociado e incrementaría la comercialización del sitio

The bay of Bariay belongs to the municipality Rafael Freyre Torres, geographically located northeast of the province of Holguín. It is bordered on the north by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, on the south by the municipalities of Báguanos and Holguín, on the east by the municipality of Banes and on the west by the municipalities of Holguín and Gibara. It witnessed, on October 28, 1492, a historical-cultural event of extraordinary relevance: the meeting of two cultures: European and aboriginal. Bathed by the waters of that bay and the adjoining one: Jururú, is Cayo Bariay, place of the first landing of Christopher Columbus in Cuba and the American continent in general. This site belongs to the Cristóbal Colón National Park and its facilities are part of tourist packages of the Gaviota agency. In interviews with Gaviota workers, natives and the historian of Cayo Bariay, it has been stated that the influx of tourists to these facilities has decreased over time and it is required, in the opinion of the interviewees and researchers, to achieve an increase in innovative actions, mainly with nature and adventure tourism products, that by taking advantage of the natural benefits enclosed in nearby places, they can be linked to the heritage of the key, which would make more evident the historical cultural importance that this fact contains and increase the generation of environmental goods and services for the area, as the associated tourist package will become more attractive and significant
