Luz y Caballero: acerca de las cualidades que deben caracterizar a un buen maestro

Abstract

El objetivo fundamental de este artículo consistió en revelar las especificidades de la concepción lucista acerca de las cualidades que deben caracterizar al maestro que exigía el proceso de formación nacional en la primera mitad del siglo XIX cubano. Los autores aplicaron como método fundamental el análisis de documentos históricos. Para ello, realizaron una búsqueda de la obra escrita de José de la Luz y Caballero, seleccionaron los textos y analizaron los postulados del insigne educador, acerca de cómo debe ser un buen maestro. Igualmente, revisaron otros textos publicados por especialistas cubanos sobre Luz y Caballero, compararon sus puntos de vista y valoraron sus concepciones. Analizaron el ideal de maestro propuesto por Luz y Caballero para la escuela cubana de su época. Consideraron que las concepciones lucistas, acerca de cómo debe ser un buen maestro, fueron novedosas en su tiempo, pues expresaron la necesidad de fundar una escuela nueva en Cuba, patrocinada por maestros comprometidos con la tarea de fundar una cultura autóctona, a partir de la cual floreció la identidad cubana.

The main objective of this article revealed the specificities of the conceptions of Luz about the qualities that must characterize the kind of teacher that the national formation process demanded in the first half of the XIX Cuban century. The authors applied the analysis of historical documents. For that purpose, a search on the written work of José de la Luz y Caballero was developed, selected the texts and analyzed the assumptions of the notable educator, on how must be a good teacher. Likewise, others published about Luz y Caballero by Cuban specialists were also revised; their points of view were compared and valued their conceptions. The idea of a perfect teacher proposed by Luz y Caballero for the Cuban school of his epoch was analyzed. It was considered that his conceptions, about how must be a good teacher, were novel in his time, due to they expressed the need of founding a new Cuban school, sponsored by committed teachers with the task of create an autochthonous culture, from which the Cuban identity flourished.
